writer's block

Writer's Block

I will confess: I talk about this often enough to know that everyone overcomes writers block in their own way, there isn't one method for every writer because that'd be ridiculous. so here's a few ways to try:

  • start a new book
  • eat
  • sleep
  • write some word vomit on a page or a book full of it
  • find some inspiration
  • take a break then come back to it later
  • think real hard about random things
  • write down your dreams (if you can!) sleepind dreams, to clear that up
  • know when to get rid of the idea you have, if it's just not working: try something else
  • start a new book ( i always do this)
  • search tumblr for inspiration, trust me: if you follow the right blogs you should be on your way
  • write the other part of the other book, this doesn't make sense but if you know what i mean: do it
  • draw something
  • search character names
  • read books
  • sometimes i read essays on stuff i find interesting (lame, i realise now)
  • TED talks on creative writing, sounds boring but it actually quite fascinating
  • read more books, can't stress this enough: they are like your no.1 source
  • start a blog and talk about your writers block and what you should doing to overcome it
  • buy a parrot, guinea pig if you're on a budget
  • this is just another dot-point
  • go for a drive
  • do some breathing exercises
  • eat some more
  • write aimless scribbles
  • swim
  • shackle yourself down to the desk and just write
but at the end of the day, you only have writers block because you don't know where to go on, trying something new is a good way to go about it. get rid of that scene you're stuck on and try rewriting it or switching some stuff around. one time I made the love interest into the girl's Dad instead, it's not as weird as it sounds and got me out of the deep, dark hole of writers block because I changed some things that didn't work.

hope this was helpful,

Sabrina
